سنگ آنتيک از قرار دادن قطعات شکسته سنگ و خرده سنگ کنار هم (ضايعات و باطله هاي سنگهاي تراورتن) و چسباندن آنها با ملاتهائيکه پايه زريني دارد توليد مي شوند و به عبارتي از مجموع و ترکيب باطله ها و ضايعات سنگهاي تزئيني تراورتن با مواد افزاينده مختصر ديگر بدست ميآيند. ايده پديد آمدن سنگهاي آنتيک از آنجا شکل گرفت که طراحان و آرشيتکت ها بمنظور هر چه زيباتر کردن فضاها اعم از فضاهاي بيروني و دروني ساختمانها و کف پوش ها و محوطه سازيهاي بيروني نياز به سنگهايي با فاکتورهاي مورد نظر خويش را احساس مي نمودند بعلاوه پيشرفت صنعت ساختمان و سليقه هاي مختلف اين نياز را بيان ميکرد که سنگهايي با طرحهاي مختلف و فاکتورهايي فيزيکي و مکانيکي کيفيت بالا و قيمت مناسب بايد در دسترس باشد. 2- تشکيل ضايعات: معمولاً در هنگام استخراج معادن تراورتن بويژه در مواقعيکه سنگ داراي کيلواژ، درزه و شکاف و شکستگي باشد و درزه هاي موجود در سنگ بيکديگر نزديک باشند مقدار زيادي و حدود 20% ضايعات بصورت سنگ لاشه ايجاد مي شود که اين مواد بعنوان محصولات جانبي معدن بحساب مي آيند. البته توليد و ايجاد ضايعات از طريق ديگر هم صورت ميگيرد و آن کارخانجات فرآوري سنگ تزئيني تراورتن مي باشد که با توجه به تناژوزني يک تن سنگ تراورتن ورودي به کارخانه ي فرآوري جهت برش و تهيه پلاک حدود 35% آن بعنوان ضايعات در نظر گرفته مي شود و بطور کلي در کارخانجات سنگ ابعاد سنگ زير cm10 Í cm10 بعنوان باطله در نظر گرفته مي شوند. 25% از باطله هاي معادن سنگ ايران بازيافت مي شوند باطله حاصل از معادن سنگ ايران دو برابر استاندارد جهاني است. بيشترين حجم باطله به معادن سنگ گرانيت مي باشد. 3-عوامل مهم تشکيل ضايعات و باطله هاي سنگهاي تزئيني: 1- کارخانجات سنگ با توجه به قله هاي آورده شده به کارخانجات، که اين قله ها داراي شکافهايي بوده که در موقع برش توسط قله بر در کارخانه باعث ضايعات بيشتر شده و از استحکام معمول محصول نيز ميکاهد. 2- براساس آمار بدست آمده ، يک تن سنگ زمانيکه از معدن خارج ميگردد 50% آن ناسالم و غير قابل استفاده است که ضمن ايجاد ضايعات در نتيجه مصرف کننده بايد براي هر يک تن سنگ دو برابر بهاي آنرا بپردازد. 3- معمولاً پلاکهائيکه در کارخانجات سنگبري، استفاده ميگردند يا توليد مي شوند بعلت عدم دقت در حمل غالباً باعث ايجاد شکستگي در لبه ها، ترک
