Zagros Petrochemical Company is an Iranian petrochemical producer established in 2000 and built on a 31-hectare site in the South Pars Special Energy Economic Zone in Assaluyeh. Created as part of Iran's Third Economic Development Plan to capture a share of the global methanol market, Zagros is the largest methanol producer in Iran and ranks among the five largest in the world.
The complex produces AA-grade methanol with a nominal annual capacity of 3.3 million tons across two phases completed in 2006 and 2009. Using natural gas as feedstock, Zagros accounts for roughly two percent of global methanol output and exports the bulk of its production to international markets, serving the chemical, fuel, and derivatives industries.
