MetriCeph (Intrauterine Antibiotic Syringe) Composition: Each syringe contains: Cefquinome sulfate – 900 mg Pharmaceutical Group: Fourth-generation cephalosporin antibiotic (β-lactam class) Mechanism of Action: Cefquinome is a fourth-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by blocking peptidoglycan cross-linking , leading to bacterial cell lysis and death ( bactericidal effect ). It is highly resistant to β-lactamase enzymes , making it effective in the uterine environment where resistant pathogens may be present. Cefquinome demonstrates broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including key pathogens involved in bovine uterine infections: Actinomyces spp. Corynebacterium pyogenes Anaerobes such as Fusobacterium spp. Indications: For the treatment of uterine infections in cattle, including: Clinical and subclinical endometritis Metritis Retained placenta Post-dystocia infections Administration and Dosage: Intrauterine use only Administer one syringe per cow as a single dose If necessary, a second dose may be administered after 72 hours Instructions for administration: Attach the syringe to a sterile intrauterine catheter . Using a sterile rectal glove , perform a rectal examination to guide the catheter through the cervix and into the uterine body. Inject the full contents of the syringe into the uterus.
